What are your thoughts about Atticus? Is he a good father? What are his strengths and weaknesses? What does he contribute to his children's growth and understanding of the world?

Atticus is a good father, because he brings a more realistic side to alot of things. Many of his strenghs are his weakness. He a good lawye and has ideas aboout african americans that cause his weaknesses. Like the trial, Tom robinson is bieng defended by him, but tha causes people to make fun of his views

His understanding of the world is far greater that the childrens, He is there to theach thaem about the world and all of this views. It's important that he teachs them his views becasuse if he was going to be sahped by society, then they(the kids) would learn all of the wrong things aobout african americasns, issues about bood radley and other people.

I think that Atticus is a good father figure. He is a great listener he is very humble, and also he is very smart.I think that one of his weaknesses is that he is older than all of the other father figures around. I think Atticus is very positive in the growth of his children.

I LOVE Atticus. He's such a cool character. He's not prejudiced against African Americans, which makes him 10 million times cooler. His fathering skills are a little so-so. However, he clearly knows what he's doing. Whatever his method of raising these kids may be, he's definately sticking to the same method. He encourages his children, laughs with them and loves them. But he also makes sure they know what is right and what is wrong. I think that he has also made them accepting of the African American race, which in the south at this time, was unheard of.

Atticus seems to act as the knowledgeble person that is serious but caring and rarely gets into other's buisnesses. For people that were not related and not friends he did not care what they said and what ideas they have about him. I'm not sure if he really does not care about what other people think of him or if he is just setting a role for Jwm and Scout to be in a non racist world and how the world should be, where nobody cared about the color of your skin and hair but only what is on the inside. Atticus shows his inside by sticking up for a colored person and to show everyone that he and his family cares and then most of the African American and African community had respect for his family as well and let them into their church. He does not play football like all the other dads because his weakness is his age but he still puts his strengths up which are caring for people, being a good role model, and helping his own children understand the ways of the world and in what ways it is right and in what ways it's wrong.

I think that atticus is a good father that doesnt like bragging or showing off in front of his kids. He is an extremely good father because he helps his kids whenever they need him and knows how to do things even the younger dads in the community. Atticus is an extremely good father even though sometimes he is harder on his kids than he should be.

I really like Atticus. He's a good father. He is honest with his children and shows them the truths about the world, but in a nice way. He also keeps them in line and out of trouble, most of the time, but he does the best he can.

Atticus is the perfect father (in my own opinion). He is intelligent, somewhat honest, and protective of his children. He does the best he can. His only weakness is that he tries to protect his children a little to much from violence. Like about the one-shot banananame. He didn't tell his kids because he didn't want them to find out about that reputation. He protected them, he tried.

Ilove this man. He is kind, gentle, and he lets his kids think freely. He is honest, thoughtful, and his kids aren't afraid to talk to him. Now, that is a good dad. Any dad whose kids aren't afraid to express their thoughtsfreely to him is a great father.

i for think that atticus is the right father for jem and scout becuase he is leading a great example for the kids in such a racist era. to do that is amazing. it takes alot of campassion and heart to have an african american mother like to jem and scout. he is also protective about them (he doesnt want them to get into alot of trouble with voilence), but overall hes a good caring father for them. i think his only weakness is that he is a little overprotective and he kind of needs to give them a little more freedom..but overall good guy

I think Atticus is a good father. I mean he isn't home much because he works but when he is he teaches the children life lessons. Jem mentioned in the book that Atticus never whipped him, that is always good with the way the kids tend to act. I think of a weakness of his is his neighbors. I think he cares about what they think of his family a lot.

He's a great person, being patient, intelligent, kind, etc. He definitely instills good moral values on his kids. There's something missing though, and I think it's that he doesn't really interact physically with his kids. They never run around and throw a football in the yard or play catch. But maybe that's not what Scout and Jem need.
