Hello, I'm Jeff. I'm the guy who sits in the back of the room and watches what you are all typing...(just kidding). I teach 8th grade history at Benicia Middle School. I try to show students that understanding how the government works is important and that they have to be able to interpret information they are sthingy fed. They often look at me with a look that says"we don't care, when is class over?"

Hi,
I'm Amy. I work at Alhambra and teach Modern World History and Civics. I've been teaching for 9 years, this is my 6th year in Martinez. I like biking, travel and lately I've been a little obsessed with The Wire.
Why am I here? I want a Master's in order to get a little more job security, a little more pay and a little more spark in my teaching.

Hi, I am Brittany and I am currently a 7th grade Pre-Algebra teacher at Helms Middle School in San Pablo. This is my second year teacher and I am in the Touro credential program as well!! I would like to have a more technology friendly classroom. I do not have a smartboard or computers in my classroom, but I know once I recieve those items I can apply everything that I learn from this program to my classroom. I enjoy teaching, it is very eventful and you never know how the day is going to end. I am the only child, but I love my dog Pooh. I am from a background of educators/administrators and I didn't believe education was my path, but here I am!!! Also, I am a fairly quiet person and I love to go shopping! [glow=red,2,300]I love the color red and my sorority !![/glow]

My name is Lauren Nourse. I teach 8th grade science at Martinez Junior High School. Before I was at Martinez I taught science at Pleasant Hill Elementary School.
My current passion is playing music with 11 other wonderful women. We play irish, old time and occasionally blue grass. I am also heavily involved with Two Sentinels Girl Scout camp - a very rustic facility in the high sierras.
I have 2 lovely daughters who, to my delight, are now back in the bay area. Perhaps they are my inspiration for continuing to try to learn and challenge myself to take this masters program.

Hi,
My name is Kelly Hughes. I am currently a fourth grade teacher at Joe Henderson Elementary School in Benicia. This is my third year as a teacher. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and wake up every morning looking forward to what the day will bring...hopefully this mentality will last for a few more years :-)
When I am not busy lesson planning, or grading papers, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am an avid reader, although I can't seem to find as much time for that these days unless it is school related. I like to travel, and I have been lucky enough to travel to many exciting places around the world.
I am excited to be in this Masters program. Technology has always been something that I have been interested in, especially when it comes to using it in my classroom. As in most districts, BUSD doesn't have much funding for technology. I currently have one student computer, and a recently installed LCD projector. However limited the resources, I am always looking for ways to engage my students, and technology seems to do the trick most of the time, so I use it as often as possible...even if it means that I have to crawl under my desk to hook up all of the wires and cords. I have already learned about numerous technology resources while being in this program, and I look forward to learning even more tricks and techniqes to use within my classroom.
-Kelly

Well.... my name is Megan Gerdts. I am in my seventh year of teaching at Monte Gardens Elementary in Concord. I taught kindergarten my first year and begged my principal to let me teach older kids. She wasn't thrilled with the idea, but let me move to third grade. I taught third grade for five years until all of our fifth grade teachers got laid off and I moved up to fifth grade.
I have a younger sister, Erin, that is getting married in October. She is a scientist for Applied Biosystems in Foster City and lives in San Leandro. My mom is a retired teacher and my dad retired from the property loss control business... they live in Pleasant Hill (when they aren't travelling!). I live in Concord with my best friend/roommate and two cats.
I enjoy photography and taking pictures of my friends' kids. I am in choir at my church and am not a great singer, but love the people. During the summer, I teach a class for a program through UCBerkeley for gifted students. I teach lab chemistry to students that just finished fifth grade. I also volunteer at Two Sentinels Girl Scout Camp... I cook for 150 people.
I'm here for job security, future opportunities, and to get ideas for my classroom.

Hello All, My name is Brandy and I teach third grade at Matthew Turner here in Benicia. This is my fourth year teaching and hopefully there will be many more to come. I love to read (although I don't get to do that as much as I used to, unless it's a night-time board book), scrapbook, watch movies with my husband, and work out / stay active. I love trying new things and often make more work for myself because of all the activities I try to incorporate. I'm a type A personality and it often shows in my stress levels I'm here to make sure that I get my master's before having another child, and to make myself more valuable to the school district. Job opportunities in the future? Let's hope!

My name is Jefferson Hartman. I have been teaching 8th grade science at Martinez Junior High School for 7 years. Prior to that I was the science specialist at John Swett Elementary School for 7 years. During the summer I take people down the South Fork and Middle Forks of the American river in rafts. I work for Beyond Limits Adventures www.rivertrip.com out of Coloma, CA. When I am not teaching, doing homework for this Masters program or rafting I am either riding my bicycle, running, swimming, paddling my HUKI kayak, www.huki.com or dreaming about fishing for salmon or Halibut in Alaska. I am enrolled in the Ed Tech program for two reasons: our school staff is behind the times in terms of internet technology and I want to move up the pay scale. My sister has written several book for adobe www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=annesa+hartman&tag=googhydr-20&index . My father teaches online classes for Modesto Junior College. Both are successful in the computer world, unlike myself. Earning this degree should move me a little closer to their status.

My name is Erlyn Fukushima. I've been teaching 6th grade English at Benicia Middle School for the last 13 years. Before my present position, I taught at Samuel Jackman Middle School (in the Elk Grove School District) for 4 years. I graduated from Benicia High School back in '85, and am surprised at how many teachers are STILL there! I do enjoy my job, but can do without the drama (and that's not necessarily from from the students!).
I have three kids that keep me busy (12 yrs, 9 yrs, and 5 yrs). I like to read, scrapbook and cook. And in the words of my students, I like "kickin' it" with my friends.
I think this is a great way to get my Masters in something that is quite relevant with today's youth AND you can't beat the price! I do like all the tech stuff that Steve is showing us, but I often wonder how I can incorporate most of it into my class when our school's are strapped for money! I will have to do my best to try and I know have great support from coworkers who have been through this program.

Buongiorno, sono io, John B. Chi sono tanti progetti.... sono molto in ritardo, ma eccolo. Hey, it's me, John B. There are so many projects, I am really late in, but here it is.... So I have been teaching music since 1980 And this is my 19th year at John Swett Elementary, in Martinez. I am also a professional musician. I play trombone for shows, in jazz bands and anywhere else I can. My wife of 31 years, Lynne and I, enjoy spending time on the coast. Muir Beach, Half Moon Bay and a few other "secret" spots are amonst our favorite places to escape. Why a Master's now? More employment opportunities The price was right oh yeah, and because of Gibb's charisima.
