they tell us that boo radley is nicer than previously thought and when the tree is filled with concrete it shows us that boo is a prisoner in his own home

I think that the gifts in the tree don't really represent things by themsselves. I mostly think that they are an expample to show how Boo Radley has changed over his life. The specific items in there don't have meaning by themselves. But together, they have a strong meaning in which that Boo Radley is trying to give hints or clues to the children that he is not what he really is. And that all the rumors are false. Mostly because, who likes to live in their house all the time and sit around doing nothing, earning a bad reputaiton. He just is trying to get out and by giving people hints, he's trying to destroy his previous reputaition.

Also I think that the knot in the tree is representing his reputaion and when he puts nice things in it, it's showing that he is not a bbad kid, but when the cement is filled , then the cement in the tree means that he is still a prisoner of his own resentation.

I think that the gifts represent the fact that Boo Radley has taken notice of the kids and is reaching out to them.
I'm afraid that I'm going to have to contradict what Nick said though. I don't think that the gifts represent that Boo Radley has changed in any way. I think he was just greatly misunderstood, and this is showing the nice side of him that has clearly faded from memory.

I think that the gifts in the tree represent that Boo Radley had noticed Jem and Scout and is trying to be nice. I think that when the tree got filled up with concrete it shows that Mr. Radley has caught Boo putting things in the tree and Mr. Radley wanted Boo to stop so he put concrete in the hole.

The gifts in the tree give us an insight on Boo Radley. One possible explanation is that Boo was loacked in by his father so he wishes to communicate with the outside. With all the rumors about him, he wants to show everyone that he is not a "loveer" or a "pariah" but a misunderstood person. The biggest hint in he is trying to communicate is when Nathan Radley seals up the whole with cement, to stop hime from communications.

Like ahmed said these gifts could be from boo radley and i wouldn't doubt it. Mr nathan cemented it most likely because he found that boo was able to get out and let his presence be known. the kids still did not suspect that it was boo maybe because that they thought he was poor and unable to give anything to anyone. Boo later on also gave Scout the blanket without being noticed. this is the beginning where the reader should start to get this same feeling that i and ahmed got that boo could be good. and also mr gibbs said not to judge him yet.

Because maybe people think Boo Radley is meaner than he really is and he likes children. Maybe he is a good person at heart but nobody gives him a chance. Because he sewed Jems pants and gave scout the sweater when she was cold the night of the fire.[glow=red,2,300][/glow]

I think the gifts in the tree are from Boo Radley trying to be nice. Even though Scout and Jem have heard nothing but bad stories about him, they dont expect that Boo Radley is the person giving them the gifts. I think that Boo is doing this to be nice to Scout and Jem or he might be doing this just to keep his life interesting.

The gifts in the tree show that Boo Radley is curious about the outside world just like Scout and Jem are curious about about Boo Radley. The gifts show that Boo is not so different from Jem and Scout. The fact that they like the same types of things says alot. I think that is Boo Radley is determined enough he will make an appearance in the story.

I really agree with everyone! we all seem to have similar brains, but anyways so I feel that the gifts are from boo and he is trying to show him he is nice and to show the readers that maybe he is not the way we thought! The gifts in the tree also help the readers not think of boo as a cruel person!!

It sounds like Boo Radley is trying to befriend Scout and Jem to reach out to the outside world.

That's a cool way to look at it. Boo Radley is just a good kid who has fallen prisoner in his own home.
