Why do we meet Miss Caroline Fisher? How does she contribute to the story? What do we learn from the scenes she is in? Conversely, what might we NOT learn, or what might NOT happen if she were not included in the story?

Miss Caroline Fisher knows nothing of Maycomb's way of life so it gives the author an oportunity to reveal the traits of other towns people who may be reapearing characters. North Alabama did not was to secede from the union with the rest of the south. It also brings in the views and opinions of an outsider. she also forces Jean Louise to question what she believes.

The teacher, Miss Caraline Fisher, is avery important part of the story line of " To kill a ocking Bird". She is important because, even though she is a new teacher, she brings new ideas and renlightens the town. She is appalled by the "cooties" that the one boy has and is not used to the life stlye that is bred here. But, later in the story, I think, she will not be the one changing. I think that the students of hers are going to be changed to the point where, the whole lifestlye of hillbilly land is influeced.I also think that Scout is going to bond with her teacher very well because Dill has kind of already taken over her spot as the sdekick of Jem.

mcezh: your point of wiew is very good and I agree with it whole heartly. There are some good points to it. But later on, those "good" points may be contradictied by other more mysteroius ones.

I think that she is important because she allows us to see that outside view of Maycomb. Everyone there is so used to the sorts of things that she is appalled by, so it lets us see both sides of the situation.

Miss Caroline is a symbol representing the idea of how every one in Maycomb knows each other. Since she is new, she doesn't understand how things "work." she surprisingly finds out how tis county is different from anywhere esle. She is important because even though she is the teacher, she is being taught by the students about Maycomb.

All of you are right in any perspective that you took. I agree with all of you. The teacher is important because she gives a view from outside of Maycomb. We as humans only notice change..... hot to cold, cold to colder, hot to hotter. From wherever the teacher lived, to coming into Maycomb and teaching was obviously different. Students there were most likely not aloud to tell the teacher information that she did not already know about, and they probably were not let along with going for a few hours on the first day of school and then leaving no matter who they were and what family they came from. In here i believe that i took that customs in new places that you have never been to is a sensitive matter and you need to listen and not talk and assume that your way is everyway and every where uses your way. If she was not in the story it would be like not knowing the differences between hot and cold.
What i say in here may be to literal or intellectual for some people, but you don't need to accept any of my ideas, although it may be wise to incorperate it.
once again "The Cool Guy" -your opinion may vary
To: Mr.Gibbs- i believe your clock on this website may be incorrect

I agree with what everyone has posted so far. I think in the story of "To Kill a Mocking Bird" Miss Caroline Fisher put a different point of view into Maycomb's school system. She taught a completely different way than anyone else in Maycomb. If Miss Caroline Fisher wasn't in the story we might not of understood that if you haven't grew up in Maycomb you would be completely lost in teaching the kids. It seems to me that almost everyone in Maycomb knows each other.

I agree about what Ahmed said about how Ms. Fisher is being taught by the kids. She's getting to know the lifestyle of all the different kinds of people in Maycomb through these children. Plus, we talked about that in class today

Miss Caroline Fisher is the first grade teacher and she is intodused to the story becuase she is new to the town. It will change things in the town I think. If she wasn't in the story the kids wouldn't be able to open up and tell there story. The only reason they tell about themselves is because Miss Caroline is new to the town and doesnt know anyone. the things we know about her is that; A boy in her class made her cry, so we know that she is a sensitive person. Also she gave Walter money, so we also know she is caring. And we also read the part were Miss Caroline made the girl stop learning at home. Maybe she has her own way of teaching that she wants everyone to learn.

Conversely, what might we NOT learn, or what might NOT happen if she were not included in the story? i think that ms caroline fisher is important for several reasons. one, without her character in the story, we would have not been introduced to the other school children and their backgrounds. for example, we would not have known about Burris Edwell and Walter Cunningham. we learn about the different social classes. walter and burris are of the lower class, consisting of farmers. but there is a main difference between the two. walter is much more respectful and grateful, while burris is the opposite; disrespectful and malicious towards the world. ms fisher was a way to bring the characters into the story and make it all flow.

I don't think that the kids were not allowed to tell the teacher about the town, I just think that they are used to eveyone knowing everything about the town, especialy teachers, who from a first graders point of view know everything there is to know.

i think mrs fisher represents the infultration of new ideas from a more liberal veiwpoint in a more conservative area I agree. Miss Fisher is from a town with a different view point on the whole slavery thing. I don't know whether it is more conservative or not, it just has a different outlook on the way society should be.

Miss Caroline Fisher was brought as an "outsider". She knew nothing about anyone and was new to the whole teaching experience. I think Miss Fisher symbolizes something more than her character can express. She expresses change and differences. In the story she didn't know about what each family was like. She didn't know their culture, their enviornment, or their beliefs. She also had opposite ideas being from outside Maycomb. Miss Fisher was later taught in the story about each of the different members of the class, and she learned about them. She nedded to know the difference between her old home and this new one she was later needed to grow acustomed to. She needed to know "evil before she could know good" as in different terms. he s being taught by the students more than she is teaching them. She is being changed nad changing things to create a better lifestyle for the children to live in.
